Happy Monday everyone! Last week, I had the pleasure to go to Nico with some fellow foodie bloggers. I don’t normally write restaurant reviews on my blog because I usually post some food pics on my , however this was a very special occasion.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Nico is run by some amazing people, including Chef Nicolas. Chef grew up in Paris and Normandy, France, and has traveled around the world to Australia and Canada practicing his business. Once he arrived in San Francisco, however, he knew he would stay. Nico’s taste and therefore his meals resonate with the French culture that he grew up in, with interesting mixes of authentic French richness and new age American ingredients.
Nico itself is nestled off Sacramento and Presidio in between Pacific Heights and Presidio Heights (gorgeous houses up there). It has one Michelin Star, so I was incredibly grateful I has the chance to taste this wonderful food. It’s four course menu and wine pairing changes daily, and is a blind menu, meaning you don’t know what you are in for- kind of exciting if you like that type of thing! Here’s a sneak peek into the restaurant and the meal.
The menu for that night was as follows:
Scallop- yuzu, black radish
Rainbow Trout- hedgehog mushroom, coffee, nettle
Chicken- green garlic, potato, chard
Bergamot- pistachio, fennel
My personal favorites were the Rainbow Trout, which was super interesting with the addition of coffee, but so well prepared. My second favorite was the Bergamot because I’m a sucker for anything pistachio (spumoni, anyone?). Overall, I enjoyed the meal very much. It had great size portions- I wasn’t uncomfortably full with three meat dishes, which is saying a lot considering how much Americans are served these days. Each dish was unique, delicate, and exquisite.
Let me know if you have any questions/recommendations below!
Much love,
Lauren
