It’s a summer of firsts over here: my first time navigating a business of my own (full-time), my first time spearheading new clients and a wonderful relationship, looking inward, and really figuring out what I want to do with my life. Why not add a bikini wax into the mix? Truth be told, I’m more into shaving these days (who can be bothered with appointments all the time)? But I might be converted (and you might be too) after I tell you about this experience.
As you all know if you’ve been following my Instagram over the past week or so, I’ve been visiting my family in Colorado. To get ready for the summer beach season in California, I decided to try out something that I never have before- a bikini wax. I drove down from where my parents live in Evergreen, Colorado, to Lakewood to visit the closest Waxing The City, a studio that offers Brazilian Waxing, Bikini Waxing, Eyebrow Waxing, Facial Waxing, Arm & Leg Waxing, Chest & Back Waxing, and Body Waxing.
When I walked into the studio, I was pleasantly surprised… The studio was modern, clean, inviting, and had encouraging phrases like “let go of taboos” painted on the walls. This really made me feel like I wasn’t alone in feeling nervous about this new experience. I was warmly welcomed as I checked in and perused the products the studio had to offer on the shelves in the main room (most all natural and paraben-free I might add). When it was my appointment time, I was greeted by my waxing specialist, who made me feel more than welcome.
As we made our way to the waxing studio, I saw more walls that had the encouraging phrases painted on the walls. The words painted in my studio even said, “Look great. Feel awesome.” I was ready for this new experience. As the procedure began, to soothe my remaining nerves, my waxing specialist checked in on me every so often and made sure the temperature of the wax was exactly how I wanted. I was told by a friend to practice breathing out as the wax comes off, and in as she is painting it on. It worked a little, but I’m not going to lie, it still was very painful. Why had a tattoo been so easy and this so hard?!? 30 minutes passed and I was ready to go after a little after wax serum was put on to soothe the open pores.
Bikini waxes usually last around 4-6 weeks, so it’s amazing that I won’t have to do any grooming down there. I loved the results from Waxing The City– all of the staff made me feel comfortable. The service itself hurt, but I would go back purely for the way they made me feel. UBER professional. They’ve seen their fair share of hair—every shape, size and color fur, fleece and fuzz there is to see. So it’s fair to say – they’ve seen it all – in fact, they’ve done more than a half a million Brazilian!! As for what I plan in the future for maintenance down there… Well I’ll have to see whether I can handle another waxing experience. For now, we will wait and see how long this wax lasts with my fast growing hair lol.
If you are contemplating waxing for the first time, I highly recommend visiting your local Waxing The City. First time guests can even receive 50% off their service! Visit waxingthecity.com to schedule your service.
