During this period of lockdown, it is normal to be dreaming about where you can visit once it’s safe to do so again. Since I just got back from traveling all around SE Asia, I can say there are many destinations worth seeing and Asia should be at the top of the list. Asian countries have put in place some very effective social distancing and safety measures, so it will soon be safe to travel there again (if it isn’t already). I will do some specific travel guides from the places we visited (you can see some for Thailand here and here) but for now here are places we would love to see or have been to already in Asia:
Macao
Not only is Macao (or Macau) a beautiful and vibrant place to visit, but it’s located in the region of the Pearl River Delta, which means it’s a great place to travel on to different cities in China and Hong Kong. Known as the Las Vegas of the East, you can visit casinos for a spot of gambling, or see the highly popular water dancing show. I am personally not a big casino-goer but I know many people who enjoy the city lights and variety of shows and restaurants that a city like this has to offer. There’s plenty to see and do in this cool destination.
Cebu
Cebu, in the Philippines, is a much more relaxed place to visit. Here you can see white sandy beaches, stunning blue waters and beautiful coral reefs. There are so many sites to see, including Kawasan Falls, the Cebu Taoist Temple, and even mountain ranges. Stop at some fishing villages on your travels, and sample the tasty street food on offer. The Philippines are on my list to see in SE Asia – known for it’s white sand beaches, cuisine, coral reefs, diving and adventuring… now you know why it’s still on the list 🙂
Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia, and is a bustling, metropolis of exciting nightlife, luxury hotels and exquisite cuisine. Visit attractions such as the Petronas Twin Towers, the Perdana Botanical Gardens, or simply shop in style. It’s not hard to see why this is one of the top cities in Asia AND why it’s still on my list!!
Bali
Bali, in Indonesia, has long been known as a relaxing retreat where visitors can get away from it all. It’s been on my list for a long time and the ONLY reason we didn’t get to spend months there on our journey around the world (this time) was because of the pandemic. So it’s see you soon, Bali – I can’t wait! There are many villas in Bali for tourists to rent, so they can experience the beautiful beaches and scenery on offer. If relaxing isn’t your thing (but if you are a reader of mine, it probably is) there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. Whether it’s water sports, such as diving and snorkeling, or visiting some temples, there’s something for everyone in Bali.
Kyoto
Kyoto, in Japan, is often referred to as one of Asia’s most stunning cities, mainly because of the mountainous backdrop on offer. History buffs will love Kyoto, as it’s home to over 4,000 structures, including shrines and temples. Famous attractions include the Kyoto Imperial Palace, the Nanzen-Ji hidden waterfall, and the peaceful Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. If you have been following me on Instagram, you know that this is one location we actually spent A LOT of time in… so a full travel guide is coming soon! Love you, Kyoto!
Asian cities have so much to offer, and all have their own unique quirks and attractions. Whether you want to visit modern cities, or relax on peaceful beaches, Asia has something for you. Whatever you choose, it’s hard to find a travel destination as cultured and exciting as Asia… that’s why we are SURE to go back soon (Bali – we’re coming for you!)
Happy (safe) travels,
Lauren
