Bohemian by the Bay

A life + style guide for the modern bohemian woman

Fourth of July in Coronado

July 8, 2016

If you’ve been following along on my Snapchat (Bohemianbybay) or , you know that for the fourth I went to San Diego to meet up with my besties. Before the shenanigans that happened on the fourth in Pacific Beach, Jack and I went out for a nice dinner in Coronado. I’ve never been to Coronado before, but man was I blown away. Coronado was one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in California, and that is saying a lot because in the two years I have lived here, I’ve been to quite a lot of locations.

For a dinner at Bluewater Grill, a gorgeous bayside restaurant, I wore my white knit dress I picked up from Amour Vert a few weeks ago. It was the perfect outfit to wear for the night, especially when beach nights get a little chilly after the sun goes down. I paired it with my go-to gladiators (I might need another pair… I always wear these)!

I absolutely loved exploring around the Hotel del Coronado at sunset. People were just coming in from their day at the beach, were getting ready for bonfires, on their way to dinner, or just on a sunset stroll. I felt like I was walking along the Outerbanks shores on the East Coast; the beach had this magical, fleeting and romantic vibe. Oh man, I love traveling. Let me know if you have any recommendations for next time I head to Coronado, because I know I will be back!

Much love,
Lauren

Pattern Wrap Dress

May 17, 2016

Whenever I travel to LA, which is quite a bit, I always try to pack light and airy pieces since it can get quite hot and muggy there sometimes. I recently got this pattern dress from Sheinside, and it is absolutely perfect for a day of strolling in the sunshine. I paired it with my super comfortable wedges so I could walk around the neighborhood and shop without my feet dying and still get some height with this dress.

I recently discovered a newfound love for East Los Angeles. There are so many great spots popping up here. Some of my favorites are of course Blue Bottle, Winsome, Myrtle and Alfred Coffee. Put these on your list next time you are there!

Love,
Lauren

Sheer Kimono

May 3, 2016

This past weekend, I traveled to one of my favorite places in Southern California… Manhattan Beach. I have only been there one other time, and that was on a short trip when I was touring colleges during my school search. Manhattan Beach is filled with the cutest homes and shops and is not nearly as crowded as other beaches near LA. For this day at the beach, I wore my new kimono I got at the Jackalope Art Fair in Pasadena the day prior. I’ll spill my insight into the art fair in one of my later posts, but for now you can get the details on my kimono– it’s from Sacred LA. The shop owner designs and makes the kimonos with her Nana in Los Angeles. You can find similar here!

I paired the kimono with a bathing suit I got from ILYMIX. I love to juxtapose edgy pieces with bohemian pieces. The result is “modern bohemian”, a phrase and style that I am trying to embody.

I can’t wait to make it back to Manhattan Beach. There are so many restaurants I want to try and shops I need to hit! More to come from this weekend in LA soon.

Love,
Lauren

*I’ve tagged some similar bathing suits below since this specific one is sold out.

Navy Blue Bandana

April 14, 2016

One of my favorite accessory trends that has come back is the bandana. I think the 70’s was the last time this accessory was in full swing? There are so many ways to wear the bandana, whether that be around the neck (ala my friend Lindsey of the blog Seamless Sea), in the hair like I chose for this outfit, or wrapped around the wrist. Whatever you chose, this accessory adds a little bit of edge to any outfit and gives off a cool-girl-chic vibe. I can jump on board with that.

I paired the bandana with one of my favorite T-shirts that I’ve had since high school. Johnny Depp has been my celebrity crush since the moment I saw “Chocolate”, I mean that mustache and that hair, am I right?! So, it was only natural that I got this T-shirt to show my affection publicly. All hail Johnny.

These shots were taken in Old Town Pasadena. If you all are ever in that area, be sure to grab coffee at Lavender & Honey Espresso. I didn’t get to try their lavender latte or lavender honey toast with goat cheese (mistakes!), but that is what they are most known for.

Can’t wait to show you all what’s to come… I’ve been teaming up with a lot of photographers lately to bring you guys some great content 🙂

Love,
Lauren
